The philosophy behind it to me seems you can't fully trust your thoughts so its important to be vigilant and not be fully absorbed into them. You can convince yourself of many stuff and live your life out in ways that aren't immediately impactful but in the long run given you bad stuff.

Nepsis is a practice done in your church reciting a specific prayer

in the Catholic church we don't have an specific prayer, unless it's the rosary

a) no one ever tells you about it in the west despite being very evident
b) as Mozal said, there's no specific guideline in the west
