I think we will all agree that Judas was a fool but a much better person than these

2019-09-14 21:51:38 UTC

Yeah

2019-09-14 23:27:57 UTC

Judas at least felt sorrow for his betrayal

2019-09-14 23:36:39 UTC

9th circle is traitors, I suppose circle 10 could be Satan's literal asshole eternally consuming mothers who betray their unborn children and the doctors who perform the sacrifice

2019-09-14 23:45:56 UTC

The circles don't exist. They were 'invented' by Dante Alighieri as a storytelling device for his epic poem

2019-09-15 00:17:51 UTC

Nigga, if you have any better ideas on how hell works, I'm all ears.

2019-09-15 00:24:24 UTC

Nigga, I'm not using a working of Hell literally based on a self-admittedly fictional literary device.

2019-09-15 00:25:40 UTC

"LOOK AT ME, I'M SO TRAD THAT I DON'T REFER TO DANTE WHEN EVEN THE FECKING CHURCH DOES. MUH DOGMA."

2019-09-15 00:32:21 UTC

Dante is 'literally' an epic poem. Nothing in it is theologically accurate, weirdo.

2019-09-15 00:34:25 UTC

The circles probably don't exist, but as it is an epic poem, they are epic

2019-09-15 00:36:56 UTC

Dante was not just a poet tho

2019-09-15 00:37:05 UTC

he was a well rounded renaissance man

2019-09-15 00:37:24 UTC

i dont think his poem is something catholics can take at face value

2019-09-15 00:37:36 UTC

but its not something that can be outright dismissed either

2019-09-15 00:43:03 UTC

Yeah, basically this

2019-09-15 03:13:43 UTC

I'm well aware the circles are fiction, I was memeing

2019-09-15 03:14:00 UTC

Dantes inferno is dumb

2019-09-15 03:14:39 UTC

It's good for what it is, solid piece of satire and allegory

2019-09-15 03:15:01 UTC

Less goofy than the Pilgrim's Progress

2019-09-15 03:39:33 UTC

Dante's Infeno is good

2019-09-15 03:39:56 UTC

The book or the game?

2019-09-15 04:14:47 UTC

The book

2019-09-15 10:15:28 UTC

I do find it weird how a random guy came up with an interpretation of hell and the RCC simply adopted it.

2019-09-15 10:27:16 UTC

Dante Aligheri wasn't just a random guy. Nor was he a particularly revered figure for his day.

2019-09-15 10:27:50 UTC

I do remember seeing a post equating him to a modern /r9k/ shitposter or /b/tard.

2019-09-15 10:28:01 UTC

Which I find to be uncharitable.

2019-09-15 10:28:07 UTC

But amusing.

2019-09-15 11:22:53 UTC

the divine comedy intrigues me, I want to read it

2019-09-15 11:24:49 UTC

Supposed to be super long.

2019-09-15 11:26:36 UTC

I don't doubt that, but its bound to be at least a not utter shite read

2019-09-15 11:39:32 UTC

If you like translated works from archaic language then yea

2019-09-15 11:48:34 UTC

he wasnt a random guy

2019-09-15 11:48:57 UTC

he was a (lay) theologian and philosopher among other things

2019-09-15 11:49:12 UTC

dude was hella talented and smart

2019-09-15 11:51:44 UTC

@Deleted User shouldn't be too bad, had to read stuff like beowulf for uni

2019-09-15 17:30:48 UTC

Vespers and benediction to spiritually dab on prots. <:dab2:549526443638521858>

2019-09-15 22:53:18 UTC

Divine Comedy was meant to roast certain people using the idea of Hell as an allegorical framework, it was just so popular at the time it kinda morphed into an easy way for people to express the idea of hell/ push their own actual ideas about hell

2019-09-15 22:53:40 UTC

Dante himself I don't think actually believed real hell was like that

2019-09-15 22:56:27 UTC

yes

2019-09-15 22:57:20 UTC

but the Church doesn't accept Inferno as dogma

2019-09-15 23:16:27 UTC

Definitely not lol
