Answer me this however

2020-01-21 05:26:33 UTC

Is the KJV good?

2020-01-21 05:27:18 UTC

Is this a trick question

2020-01-21 05:27:39 UTC

the KJV will one day cease to exist

2020-01-21 05:27:43 UTC

it's ok as a classical translation for its language most of the time

2020-01-21 05:28:19 UTC

Like, formal english contexts KJV is ideal because it's universal in a sense

2020-01-21 05:28:54 UTC

But for purposes of study it's one of the worst translations considered orthodox by any large group of christians

2020-01-21 05:28:54 UTC

I just want to know what bible I should be reading from

2020-01-21 05:29:11 UTC

My native version is DdB Jerusalem bible

2020-01-21 05:29:11 UTC

I'm a big fan of the ESV for readability

2020-01-21 05:29:31 UTC

Because I speak Spanish

2020-01-21 05:29:45 UTC

But DRA seems better than KJV in translation

2020-01-21 05:30:15 UTC

ESV is easily the best modern english translation, DRA is good but archaic in some senses, I'd recommend it for the deuterocannon

2020-01-21 05:30:52 UTC

Oh yeah

2020-01-21 05:31:07 UTC

KJV is missing 7 books

2020-01-21 05:31:29 UTC

Not all KJV, modern printers just tend to omit it or publish it seperately

2020-01-21 05:31:50 UTC

there was an official KJV translation of the deuterocannon though

2020-01-21 05:33:24 UTC

KJV is garbage lmao

2020-01-21 05:34:03 UTC

learn Latin and get Vulgata

2020-01-21 05:34:22 UTC

@Gewisse Douay Rheims or ESV, or you can learn Latin and get the Vulgata I guess

2020-01-21 05:34:53 UTC

Jerusalem Bible ain't bad either

2020-01-21 05:41:31 UTC

Thought Jerusalem was a Spanish version

2020-01-21 05:44:40 UTC

There's an English version as well, I've seen copies floating around illustrated by Salvador Dali so I assume it was a Spanish translation primarily though

2020-01-21 05:45:11 UTC

It’s translated directly from Hebrew and Koine Greek

2020-01-21 05:48:01 UTC

I have an older version

2020-01-21 05:48:03 UTC

Dab

2020-01-21 05:49:09 UTC

Apparently it’s originally french

2020-01-21 06:04:04 UTC

@MawLr Tolkien translated one of the books

2020-01-21 06:04:32 UTC

Jonah specifically.

2020-01-21 06:17:45 UTC

Based

2020-01-21 06:22:10 UTC

Can I get a bible in either Quenya or Sindarin?

2020-01-21 07:02:53 UTC

@MawLr The problem with this one, I have noticed, is that some parts are translated with the jewish masoteric texts.

2020-01-21 07:03:24 UTC

So in a psalm, for example, it reads "you opened my ears" instead of "you gave me a body"

2020-01-21 07:28:28 UTC

And which bible do you recommend

2020-01-21 07:30:16 UTC

I guess that one is ok beyoind this. Right now I'm also reading one edited by the "San Pablo" editorial, though I don't know if it has a name even

2020-01-21 07:38:15 UTC

That editorial sells some ortho books
