2019-08-17 21:39:24 UTC

Why so?

2019-08-17 21:40:00 UTC

because neither side has the ability to prove their side or disprove the other side

2019-08-17 21:40:09 UTC

Why do they lack this ability?

2019-08-17 21:40:12 UTC

it's not a worthwhile argument to have

2019-08-17 21:40:19 UTC

What makes it not worthwhile?

2019-08-17 21:40:20 UTC

I claim it is misguided; 'an error of judgement' to assume that there are facts pointing towards the objective existence of god, worshipping is an act derived from belief in the conditioned existence of god, I question why people should be conditioned to such a belief?

2019-08-17 21:40:24 UTC

prove to me that God doesn't exist

2019-08-17 21:40:33 UTC

you can't, just like I can't prove that He does

2019-08-17 21:40:35 UTC

I can't because I lack the evidence

2019-08-17 21:40:40 UTC

not because I lack the ability

2019-08-17 21:40:47 UTC

I have the tools to do so

2019-08-17 21:41:00 UTC

no evidence = no ability to disprove

2019-08-17 21:41:15 UTC

In the same way you can't disprove the tooth fairy, but I suppose this is another opinion.

2019-08-17 21:41:19 UTC

do you, though? Nobody has disproven the existence of God

2019-08-17 21:41:47 UTC

You might

2019-08-17 21:41:50 UTC

you might not

2019-08-17 21:41:52 UTC

🤷

2019-08-17 21:42:05 UTC

Well they have disproved the Abrahamic god's capacity for all-power, all-knowledge, all-mercy

2019-08-17 21:42:31 UTC

with respect, that's word salad lol

2019-08-17 21:42:36 UTC

I assume you're familiar with the 'god can't create a rock that he can't move'

2019-08-17 21:42:36 UTC

There’s no evidence either way, so the logical assumption is to assume the negative as the negative side is passive. The active side has the burden of proof.

2019-08-17 21:42:44 UTC

Right

2019-08-17 21:42:56 UTC

And the passive side is that we don't know and shouldn't take it as fact, so it isn't worthy of humouring

2019-08-17 21:43:10 UTC

Otherwise we'd pray to every magical being ever, do every irrational thing ever.

2019-08-17 21:43:12 UTC

in a traditional argument, absolutely

2019-08-17 21:43:22 UTC

this is a discussion about the existence of a deity lol

2019-08-17 21:43:25 UTC

So?

2019-08-17 21:43:46 UTC

The main issue with the existence of god is that it’s a spiritualistic argument. So the most logical position is agnosticism

2019-08-17 21:43:47 UTC

Should I disregard every 'traditional argument' because it regards X thing I believe to be greater than the rest of NOT X things?

2019-08-17 21:44:21 UTC

Most atheists in practice are agnostics who assume the negative rather than default

2019-08-17 21:44:22 UTC

that's what I was trying to get at, thank you @wiping account (DM for more info

2019-08-17 21:44:27 UTC

it's a pointless discussion

2019-08-17 21:44:27 UTC

Yes, I never claim to disprove god...

2019-08-17 21:44:39 UTC

no offense Romerlin :P

2019-08-17 21:44:50 UTC

Don't try to weasle out big boi

2019-08-17 21:44:54 UTC

It’s only pointless when both already realize that god can’t be proven

2019-08-17 21:44:59 UTC

I claim to argue that worshipping god is ubsurd

2019-08-17 21:45:16 UTC

Because it can’t be proven right?

2019-08-17 21:45:35 UTC

Yes, it can't be proven or empirically shown so why should it be humoured?

2019-08-17 21:45:52 UTC

if something can be neither proven or disproven, it follows that any assessment should be treated as an opinion

2019-08-17 21:46:06 UTC

until absolute evidence is found to back up either side
