first time it was on a school exchange and I stayed at a college, second time was on my own and I stayed at a hotel in the ghetto

@fruitloops.exe you're talking about Wenchuan. It was first destroyed by an earthquake in 2008 then again by a landslide in 2013. Since I'm in Sichuan I was just there a couple days ago. I saw a play on the story of it. It was really emotional and sad and my Chinese friend cried.
I remember watching Ai Weiwei's documentary on it
Him and his team basically went around talking to the families of all of the children who died, he collected a list of every kid who died and how old they were, and published it online to show just how many kids died because of shitty government building standards
