the good parts of Asia seem to be Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. And all have a certain trade off.
Hong Kong has Cantonese
Singapore has weird laws
Taiwan has impossible immigration policies
those places have higher percentage of people that can speak english
really the least you could ask is taxi drivers know some english

Taiwanese taxi drivers don't speak English often
there isn't much tourism in Taiwan anyway
Mandarin isn't hard to learn anyway
But moving to Hong-Kong kinda forces you to go through the Cantonese language clusterfuck

a cousin of mine lives in Hong Kong with his Italian wife. He works for a global company and everyone in his world speaks English. His wife is depressed because in her world (grocery store, dude that came to fix the AC, bus drivers etc) no-one speaks English
