can't imagine what it's like being there and feeling quakes every half hour
i guess? 10+ stories
felt like airplane turbulence
for the 6.4
Do you remember the big Tainan earthquake in February 2016?
the one where the shoddy building collapsed?
Yes with the oil cans inside the walls
yeah
not sure if i felt that one
I was riding a scooter in Changhua while it happened any my first thought was that the scooter must have had some defekt. I thought it was the suspension breaking or a flat tire or something
That was the first earth quake I ever experienced
No idea how you guys can live with that
I keep an emergency kit around
Taiwan #1 besides the quakes
i made it a long time ago but i think there's nonperishable food, thermal blanket, clothing, hand-crank radio + flashlight, and plastic wrap inside it
That's smart
Does everyone in Taiwan do that?
I try to mention it to people if the topic comes up
You should rebuild it, this time putting one of those hand crank phone chargers in there
it's a combo radio+flashlight that has a usb port
listen only
I imagine people are starting to want to build these kits if they haven't
maybe something to broadcast if you end up stuck in a building
i've seen all these graphics being passed around on line
about what to pack in a kit
yeah, order one of those baofeng radios
Can you upload such a graphic?
I was more thinking of a walkie talkie or something you can modify to broadcast on police frequencies
worst case they save you and arrest you because you illegally used their frequencies
lol
That's what the baofengs are
They're slightly not so pocketable radios
if everyone had that idea then the emergency frequencies would be unusable
what's the police frequency in Taiwan?
dunno
i'd rather just rely on my phone and have a charger
GSM is a little too fragile in case of emergency imho
huh?
Although you might have a GSM connection nearby, if you don't get a full pass-through to your provider's endpoint, it's unusable
as long as it's set up correctly you should be picking up at least one long range frequency from a backup tower
