the one where the shoddy building collapsed?

2018-02-07 13:48:37 UTC

Yes with the oil cans inside the walls

2018-02-07 13:48:41 UTC

yeah

2018-02-07 13:48:54 UTC

not sure if i felt that one

2018-02-07 13:49:46 UTC

I was riding a scooter in Changhua while it happened any my first thought was that the scooter must have had some defekt. I thought it was the suspension breaking or a flat tire or something

2018-02-07 13:50:00 UTC

That was the first earth quake I ever experienced

2018-02-07 13:50:16 UTC

No idea how you guys can live with that

2018-02-07 13:50:30 UTC

I keep an emergency kit around

2018-02-07 13:50:34 UTC

Taiwan #1 besides the quakes

2018-02-07 13:52:14 UTC

i made it a long time ago but i think there's nonperishable food, thermal blanket, clothing, hand-crank radio + flashlight, and plastic wrap inside it

2018-02-07 13:52:37 UTC

That's smart

2018-02-07 13:52:42 UTC

Does everyone in Taiwan do that?

2018-02-07 13:53:08 UTC

I try to mention it to people if the topic comes up

2018-02-07 13:53:16 UTC

You should rebuild it, this time putting one of those hand crank phone chargers in there

2018-02-07 13:53:29 UTC

it's a combo radio+flashlight that has a usb port

2018-02-07 13:53:57 UTC

is it a listen-only radio or can you broadcast?

2018-02-07 13:54:01 UTC

listen only

2018-02-07 13:54:08 UTC

I imagine people are starting to want to build these kits if they haven't

2018-02-07 13:54:10 UTC

maybe something to broadcast if you end up stuck in a building

2018-02-07 13:54:14 UTC

i've seen all these graphics being passed around on line

2018-02-07 13:54:21 UTC

about what to pack in a kit

2018-02-07 13:54:45 UTC

yeah, order one of those baofeng radios

2018-02-07 13:54:48 UTC

Can you upload such a graphic?

2018-02-07 13:55:08 UTC

I was more thinking of a walkie talkie or something you can modify to broadcast on police frequencies

2018-02-07 13:55:17 UTC

worst case they save you and arrest you because you illegally used their frequencies

2018-02-07 13:55:22 UTC

lol

2018-02-07 13:55:24 UTC

That's what the baofengs are

2018-02-07 13:55:40 UTC

They're slightly not so pocketable radios

2018-02-07 13:55:49 UTC

if everyone had that idea then the emergency frequencies would be unusable

2018-02-07 13:56:08 UTC

what's the police frequency in Taiwan?

2018-02-07 13:56:13 UTC

dunno

2018-02-07 13:56:23 UTC

i'd rather just rely on my phone and have a charger

2018-02-07 13:56:43 UTC

GSM is a little too fragile in case of emergency imho

2018-02-07 13:56:59 UTC

huh?

2018-02-07 13:57:06 UTC

Although you might have a GSM connection nearby, if you don't get a full pass-through to your provider's endpoint, it's unusable

2018-02-07 13:57:20 UTC

as long as it's set up correctly you should be picking up at least one long range frequency from a backup tower

2018-02-07 13:57:22 UTC

i don't have line on my PC or discord on my phone so

2018-02-07 13:57:23 UTC

on the other hand, everyone can listen to radio as long as they are nearby

2018-02-07 13:57:24 UTC

just search 地震包

2018-02-07 13:57:50 UTC

地震 = earthquake?

2018-02-07 13:57:56 UTC

I remember a while ago even in country Australia something took out a a large tower near me
