@PunishedBob the area of the barn is 216 ft sq, and an area = length times width, lets then assume "216 = l * w", l=length and w=width, the length is double the width plus an additional 6 feet, thus "l=2 * w+6", with that you can make: 216 = w(2w+6) = 2w^2 + 6w = 216, to get w, you put the 216 in the formula, thus 2w^2+6w-216 = 0, you then do the abc method as seen the screenshot. one of the answers is a negative value, rule that out bc width isnt a negative value. so now that you have the width, you can calculate the length by entering that value in the formula l=2w+6
