Being emotional doesn't necessarily have to do with your political view although they are usually a good predictor. I know conservative women that often react irrationally (emotionally driven) and later can't believe they acted that way.

I don’t like showing emotion though. My dad brought me up that way. So I’d say nurture is a factor.

I usually don’t find much of an impact from the cycle emotion wise. It’s just annoying or painful on the week and normal the rest of the time.
