I just cannot fucking STAND John Oliver (or... really, almost any left leaning personality I've watched) and I always feel like I need to watch their stuff to be able to understand the claims they're maaking
but every time, whether it's Oliver, or Contrapoints, or Hbomberguy or Pakman, or any other often cited "reasonable leftist", I always find that the person in question is a completely insufferable fuckwad who just sounds like they're constantly talking down to you
either that, or they seem reasonable up until they suddenly don't
(though to be fair, I feel that way about Blonde a fair amount of the time too, so that goes across the isle)
I could stand to listen to John Oliver pre Trump, before he was a *complete* partisan hack, might have also been my own opinions changing too though

I used to listen to him quite a lot too
then there was some segment he did about something I had at least cursory knowledge in
(I don't even remember WHAT anymore. I think it was about "sexism in video games" or some shit) and I just realized that I could never believe a fucking word out of his mouth again, with how badly his claims failed to align with reality
I feel like he used to at least talk about more unique topics other people weren't talking about and that's what I liked
I remember liking his segment on p-hacking
and now that I've learned a bit more about gun stuff, even the first segment I ever saw him do, back when he was on the Colbert Report (the video where he went over the Australian gun confiscation and talked about why America should definitely follow suit is the only one I had seen of him) is something that I can't believe I EVER thought he was right on
Yeah, that's like Knowing Better, I liked him for a while but then his video saying JBP and Ethan Klien were denying the holocaust made me distrust anything else he ever said
