the "incel" has miscategorized himself and the women mischaracterize him. I thought the other guy was the incel at the start

I made this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU_7Hqa8gIg and had a lot of "Google Chat" shows on Voluntary Virtues under "Anarchist Experience" including interviewing Jeffrey Tucker. If you think I should get back into making videos/chats, please let me know.

I would counter her argument that UBI could negate the justification for a minimum wage. In the absence of a minimum wage people power would be more competitive vs AI development in low skill work and effectively put off the AI job apocalypse. But once the capital investment is made to automate a job people power will have more difficulty competiting against AI.

2019-05-30 06:31:07 UTC

I.e. the sooner they did it the better. If your trying to manage the issue of joblessness with UBI

2019-05-30 06:40:52 UTC

A UBI wouldn't get rid of minimum wage. So what else would you counter it with.

2019-05-30 07:31:42 UTC

Ubi doesn't inherently get rid of a minimum wage. It would serve as another argument of why a mininum wage is unnecessary. What harm could there be in someone working for $1 if they would still have a full belly and warm cot to sleep in

2019-05-30 07:44:20 UTC

If it won't change the minimum wage, how is it a counter then?

2019-05-30 07:45:11 UTC

I know you aren't saying its the whole argument, but that's why i asked what else could you add to it, because that alone won't change minimum wage.

2019-05-30 08:19:02 UTC

Has yang said he would get rid of the minimum wage with UBI?

2019-05-30 08:39:17 UTC

I've not seen that, and its not likely as he also would still keep the welfare state (tho i do also, but with more limits).

2019-05-30 10:23:54 UTC

I think I rather have the $1k/month UBI with no minimum wage compared to what we have now

2019-05-30 10:56:33 UTC

I thought the idea was to largely replace the existing welfare system with UBI, but I could be misremembering that. Also, I have extreme doubts the old welfare would ever go away

2019-05-30 13:09:26 UTC

Yang doesn't want to get rid of any of the current welfare state, he actually wants to add single payer healthcare. He says you have to opt for either regular welfare or UBI depending on if you would make more money one way or another but that wouldn't really cut welfare. Based on his other ideas he probably doesn't want to cut minimum wage

2019-05-30 13:14:26 UTC

Yang explains that if someone is getting $750 in welfare already they'll only get $250 more under his little ubi plan thing

2019-05-30 13:21:22 UTC

Yeah. So basically bankrupt the government.

2019-05-30 13:28:00 UTC

Hyperinflation here we come

2019-05-30 13:48:03 UTC

Honestly Yang just seems like a less dillusional Bernie to me.

UBI will become necisarry at some point in human development, but that will only be after a massive threshold of AI jobs are reached. I don't think we're even close.

I wouldn't be surprised if AI ends up creating more jobs after an adjustment period.

2019-05-30 13:49:04 UTC

There's likely gonna be more jobs

2019-05-30 13:49:24 UTC

and if there wasn't a minimum wage AI wouldn't be implemented
on everything

2019-05-30 13:51:44 UTC

I don’t think ubi will ever be necessary.

2019-05-30 13:51:54 UTC

New jobs will be created.

2019-05-30 13:52:01 UTC

Because we'll all be ded

THIS BURNING IN MY SKIIIINNN

2019-05-30 13:53:02 UTC

@Salacious Swanky Cat when AI can self replicate and can emulate or replace human ingenuity we will reach a point where UBI will be needed.

I doubt that will be in our generation.

2019-05-30 13:53:26 UTC

Or our children's children.

2019-05-30 13:55:34 UTC

I think the minimum wage should be entirely abolished. Let people learn that they can negotiate for their wages.

Minimum wage also fosters a sense of entitlement to a certain income.

2019-05-30 14:51:20 UTC

Worse still is a real solution exists, but litterally nobody wants to hear it. 😒

2019-05-30 14:52:22 UTC

Which real solution

2019-05-30 14:55:16 UTC

Alternatives to gasoline.

2019-05-30 14:56:26 UTC

Okay

2019-05-30 14:56:31 UTC

a solution to which problem ? lol

2019-05-30 15:03:57 UTC

The solution to the minimum wage problem is not too raise minimum wages endlessly (and often fecklessly), but to develop alternatives to gasoline and deisel fuels for automotive use.

2019-05-30 15:04:03 UTC

Happy now?
