haha where are these from?
New Zealand website for turning in firearms. People were posting these on Twitter when I saw them. It's also why NZ closed the website to foreign IP addresses
Thats why VPN’s exist
haha oh that great
It would be great if people could stop calling it a "buyback", the government can not buy back something it never owned.
^
its def newspeak
they spin that fact that gov cannot deprive you of your property without due process/just compensation
so they HAVE to pay you
are they even doing the buyback yet? A number of folks were just surrendering their guns for virtue points
lol oh i hate those ppl
buy a .22lr ak style rifle and turn it into the police while another person takes pics of it, then post it social media
I'm not sure what they are doing yet, but that's what these things almost always get called when they happen.
yeah, I hate how pols try to claim that a "mandatory buyback" isn't confiscation
exactly
confiscation with the required compensation.
this was why we compensated the slave owners
their property was taken
or "freed"
and why freeing slaves was such a thorny issue. they were property
Since it isn't a voluntary transaction it can't really be called compensation since the money given does not surpass the value of the weapon to you (probably)
its still compensation
idk about new zealands laws, but here in the us. you must be compensated for property taken by the government. imminent domain is an example
this is also why they dont ban things retroactively, because they would have to compensate owners
from what I hear, these buybacks usually give you something like $100 for your gun. I'd still be pretty pissed about having to turn in my guns for something like 10% of their worth being called "just compensation"
from what ive seen, the $100 figure comes from the voluntary buy backs that get done occasionally.
the gov is required to give fair market value.
anything voluntary would not fall under the just compensation clause
hence the lower price at a voluntary buyback
Except for bump stocks apparently
and thats why its being challenged
thankfully
true. I love seeing the gun dealers hang around those buybacks and offer people more money for their guns
lol or the dudes making guns and then going to the buybacks
that entire bump stock situation is BS, even besides just compensation
like zip guns etc
oh totally, theyre making a stronger argument than just "just compensation"
LOL
