I've looked into it a little bit, and I can't find any explanation other than that he was trying something different.

Apparenlty there was a theory that triangular cartridges could be stored in less space, and that's why the bullets the Dardick fired were shaped like that, but I'm not sure why he made a system as complex as a magazine fed revolver to fire it, unless he couldn't get it to work shooting bullets like that out of a magazine.

@wolfman1911 I'd say it was to reorient each of the cartridges - they'd be staggered in the magazine
