Ideally, I think everything should have the same starting age (drinking, voting, gun ownership, etc.) and parents will have instilled responsibility in their kids starting much earlier so it's not a huge deal

2019-08-05 03:54:27 UTC

realistically, this will not be the case

2019-08-05 03:54:52 UTC

I believe boys should become men at 12.

2019-08-05 03:55:04 UTC

Teens can handle a lot more than they are given today.

2019-08-05 03:55:08 UTC

Im not disagrreing with you but just saying the alternative is just as bad, so arbitrarity isnt a legit criticism

2019-08-05 03:55:19 UTC

it will always be arbitrary

2019-08-05 03:55:45 UTC

Back when you weren't expected to live past 40 it was common for those that hit puberty to be considered for the most part, as men.

2019-08-05 03:55:57 UTC

minimum wage should be lowered so more teens can get jobs while in high school

2019-08-05 03:56:09 UTC

So joining the military and hard drinking with 12?

2019-08-05 03:56:14 UTC

There should not *be* a minimum wage

2019-08-05 03:56:22 UTC

Not drinking, but yes to the military.

2019-08-05 03:56:39 UTC

Not front line combat, but 12 year olds could fulfill a lot of other roles.

2019-08-05 03:56:57 UTC

So they arent real men

2019-08-05 03:57:14 UTC

they cant really make life decisions

2019-08-05 03:57:24 UTC

For all legal intents and purposes they were. The only thing holding them back were physical limitations.

2019-08-05 03:57:57 UTC

Are 20 year old midgets not real men?

2019-08-05 03:58:06 UTC

Youre not a man if you arent allowed to purchase alcohol because that would be bad for you

2019-08-05 03:58:26 UTC

You can if you hop over to Mexico or Canada.

2019-08-05 03:58:50 UTC

@scaevola having a limit to the age at which you can buy alchohol isn't arbitrary.

2019-08-05 03:58:50 UTC

The market will determine the minimum wage. More jobs = less workers meaning places will have to pay more to get the good employees

2019-08-05 03:59:01 UTC

The age you get your rights is.

2019-08-05 03:59:24 UTC

Just because alchohol would damage your development doesn't mean you can't be held to a high standard of responsibility

2019-08-05 03:59:27 UTC

the right to buy and do what you want

2019-08-05 03:59:33 UTC

Booze and cigs aren't rights - if I had my way, the age for those would be 25

2019-08-05 03:59:37 UTC

Alchohol isn't a human right.

2019-08-05 04:00:23 UTC

they did need an ammendment when they wanted adults to be prohibited from buying it

2019-08-05 04:00:56 UTC

Prohibition was terrible, and resulted in the NFA

2019-08-05 04:01:05 UTC

^

2019-08-05 04:01:13 UTC

you have a right, as an adult to spend the money you earn on everything you want if it doesnt hurt others directly

2019-08-05 04:02:01 UTC

Thats not true.

2019-08-05 04:02:15 UTC

I can't hire an illegal immigrant to mow my lawn

2019-08-05 04:02:15 UTC

alcohol is not a right, but it falls under liberty and the pursuit of property

2019-08-05 04:02:27 UTC

same as any product

2019-08-05 04:02:41 UTC

Goods and Services are not a human right

2019-08-05 04:02:50 UTC

The question there, then, is whether you have a right to self harm?

2019-08-05 04:02:59 UTC

no one is saying that tho @FrostyCrits

2019-08-05 04:03:05 UTC

they are not saying they are entitled to it

2019-08-05 04:03:12 UTC

that would mean they dont have to pay for it

2019-08-05 04:03:23 UTC

Either way, there is a logical reason why people under the age of 25 shouldn't be drinking alchohol.

2019-08-05 04:03:41 UTC

There isn't any reason we shouldn't be expecting more of young men and women

2019-08-05 04:03:43 UTC

there is a logical reason why noone should drink alcohol
