The people who want to live under communism can have it

2019-02-17 13:32:23 UTC

It’s a fucken win-win

2019-02-17 13:34:39 UTC

@Deleted User doesn't the US own as much of China's debt as the US owns of theirs?

The 19-year-old told Sky News from a Syrian refugee camp that "a lot of people should sympathy towards me".

2019-02-17 13:37:45 UTC

Yeah, wife and I have talked this one through over the last few days, @Lash-Games

2019-02-17 13:39:46 UTC

I think everybody has been. What is more amazing is I would say 99.9% of social media posts about it as telling her to fuck off, it is only a handful of people (almost all in the media) who are in any way, shape or form trying to cover for her

2019-02-17 14:06:41 UTC

Ooh yes. Our conclusion: “duck off” and “oh shame let the poor little girl come home!” are both equally morally bankrupt and cowardly.

2019-02-17 14:18:43 UTC

Yeah, let her return with consequences

@SpanishAbbey Yup. 👍 The only existing U.K. law which is capable of dealing with this is treason though. Which falls down given that a sovereign state declaring a non-sovereign body an enemy (with one or two precedents like Egypt declaring war on Islamic brotherhood) doesn’t happen. Diplomatic shitstorm

2019-02-17 14:44:13 UTC

I'm sure they could whip up a conspiracy to commit something or other lol

"Jeff Bezos should pay to build housing for all 63,000 homeless people in New York, an expense that would not affect his lifestyle in the least. In return for these concessions, NYC residents will agree not to spit in your coffee or spray communist graffiti on your headquarters for the first month."

2019-02-17 17:35:34 UTC

People have tried the free housing for the homeless...doesn't work

2019-02-17 17:37:23 UTC

but doesn't suprise me from the Democratic Peoples Paper of the Guardian...

I bet doesn't remember the 70s when NYC was a hell hole

2019-02-17 17:51:52 UTC

Hey, you want to open a business in my neighborhood? How about you give me $10m first, bigot

2019-02-17 17:53:32 UTC

It unclear if Amazon was going to pull off its promises to NYC but if they did...NYC is losing out

2019-02-17 17:56:07 UTC

NYC is losing out anyway due to the lost tax revenue those additional jobs would have created

2019-02-17 17:59:09 UTC

there have been times where companies get the deal then fail at their promises....I think FoxCon just did it

2019-02-17 18:06:06 UTC

Did foxconn get tax break or actual money?

2019-02-17 18:06:48 UTC

My understanding is Amazon was goning to get tax breaks. in other words new york agreed to take less of their money.

2019-02-17 18:07:04 UTC

I forget what their specifics of the deal were was but I know they backed out and got something for it....

2019-02-17 18:08:28 UTC

The Amazon deal they got 500million to help with construction which could be money or maybe building they were going to be gifted and the rest of the it (2.5 bill) would be tax breaks

2019-02-17 18:24:47 UTC

Are there even 63,000 homeless people in the entire US? That number seems way too high for New York.

2019-02-17 18:26:46 UTC

There’s about 30k in LA alone so it wouldn’t surprise me

2019-02-17 18:27:00 UTC

LA is higher than that

2019-02-17 18:27:17 UTC

LA is the US capital for homeless.....

2019-02-17 18:29:01 UTC

I looked it up 63,000 in NYC is correct....but 2/3 live in shelters every night....LA has more living on the streets likely due to better weather

2019-02-17 18:30:40 UTC

I was just going off of what google said. I know anecdotally the whole city is full of homeless but I have no idea how many there actually are

2019-02-17 18:31:46 UTC

Really? I didn’t realize that there were so many. I honestly thought the number was around 60,000 for permanently homeless people for the whole country

2019-02-17 18:32:23 UTC

Well I lot of the homeless in NYC are working homeless that can't afford housing..

2019-02-17 18:33:42 UTC

there is a difference between working homeless priced out of the market and is with it. And homeless who lives on the street and does who knows what for money

2019-02-17 18:35:45 UTC

This is interesting

2019-02-17 18:36:02 UTC

I agree that there’s a difference between can’t afford and not working

2019-02-17 18:36:21 UTC

I blame zoning laws and building codes for that.

2019-02-17 18:36:47 UTC

oh definatelty zoning and codes have a lot to do with it

2019-02-17 18:37:24 UTC

I’m not opposed to helping build additional homes. I’ve done it before. Zoning makes it difficult though
