but yea ultimately i will wait to see what is reported

2019-04-15 20:17:00 UTC

Typically renovations on a structure like ND are done by specialist though, so i'm skeptical of an accident

They aren't just the fastest mexican to jump in the bed of the truck at home depot

2019-04-15 20:17:41 UTC

The problem was the construction crew wasn't diverse enough.

2019-04-15 20:18:25 UTC

If it was, the building would have been stronger, just like the country.

2019-04-15 20:27:15 UTC

so far early reports is a welding accident started the fire but nothing offical..

2019-04-15 20:48:59 UTC

Typically, construction and engineering on a project like the space shuttle are done by specialists though, so I'm skeptical that an accident caused the Challenger explosion

2019-04-15 20:50:22 UTC

also it seemed to spread so fast....hard to see a accident of this size happening at a place like that. Wouldn't they take every safety precaustion

2019-04-15 20:51:02 UTC

They may not have sprinkler systems in the church (speculation)

2019-04-15 20:51:24 UTC

Without a fire suppression system, fire would spread very quickly

2019-04-15 20:51:50 UTC

well have to wait and see

2019-04-15 20:52:17 UTC

Yeah, we really don't have a lot of information right now

2019-04-15 20:52:47 UTC

It might be possible that they thought the possibility of something like Notre Dame burning down to be so far from their minds that they didn't take necessary precautions.

2019-04-15 20:53:12 UTC

Yeah, that's possible

2019-04-15 20:53:26 UTC

Is French labor known for being bad on things like this?

2019-04-15 20:53:47 UTC

It can be expensive to install a fire suppression system. There could also be some laws against altering historical buildings

2019-04-16 00:12:13 UTC

They don't use general contractors on historical renovotations. They probably clean the thing with qtips, i wouldn't be so quick to assume incompetence

2019-04-16 01:45:41 UTC

based on my experience with losses, the first thing i assume is incompetence lol

2019-04-16 01:54:20 UTC

That should be anyone's first assumption, unless you have evidence otherwise.

2019-04-16 02:08:15 UTC

Horribly thing, either way.
Unless it was terrorism. Then 'tis to be expected.

2019-04-16 02:29:51 UTC

Is the maintenance of a historical site like Notre Dame handled by the government, or the church?

2019-04-16 02:30:10 UTC

If the former, I would definitely assume incompetence.

2019-04-16 02:43:38 UTC

If you were the french government, would you cover up arson knowing what would happen if it got it it was terroist?

2019-04-16 03:07:25 UTC

@Putz
... Yes. Especially with the people in charge of France now. 😠

2019-04-16 10:36:22 UTC

it's possible the cathedral is owned by some religious body separate from the government. maybe the diocese of paris or something
