I have. It's usually broached with the assertion that anime is better than anything coming out of the west
And then the categories stack up
Speaking of which, god I hate the meme that katanas are great swords.
Wouldn't that be a personal prefence? I most western cartoons now a days I don't really find enjoyable. I usually watch anime, if I can find a good or at least a decent one.
Are katanas bad swords then?
Japanese iron was pretty shit, and all of their weapons were made to overcome that limitation.
They work for what they were designed for.
I'm told you need to be trained on how to use a katana, because they are really brittle and break easily.
That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Bastard Sword" bullshit that's going on in the d20 system right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.
Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.
Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.
Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.
So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Katanas:
(One-Handed Exotic Weapon) 1d12 Damage 19-20 x4 Crit +2 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork
(Two-Handed Exotic Weapon) 2d10 Damage 17-20 x4 Crit +5 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork
Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Katanas in real life, don't you think?
tl;dr = Katanas need to do more damage in d20, see my new stat block.
lol
Katanas were decent swords not the best ever but they got the job done, the real stand out wasn't the blade but the handle which are very well designed and have great grips.
for using a Katana there is a specific technique since they're slashing swords not stabbing swords, the motion is kind of like a fishing rod
you can't just swing away with them
Katanas are good, but the blacksmith techniques usually pointed to as setting them apart like folded steel existed elsewhere. Ironically, the Japanese learned how to make guns from Portuguese traders fairly early on and actually made very good guns but they ended up destroying them all because the Samurai saw them as a threat to their status
you mean the obvious copypasta?
Just added this channel to my Discord. Any Canadians out there?

We're not taking Bieber back btw. He's yours for good
In return we can try to rehab Jim Carrey. Dude needs it bad
Lol
Biebs is cool now, he just seems to want do his own thing with his wife no longer in his obnoxious rich kid faze.
what little I've seen of him does seem to portray him as pretty down to earth now
I remember seeing a video of him getting mobbed by paparazzi outside of his house a few years ago
and when he got into his car and was being driven off, one of the paparazzi got hit by the car (it wasn't going fast, so it wasn't particularly bad, but still, probably hurt quite a bit), so he had his driver stop and he got out to personally make sure the guy was ok
and basically called out everyone that was mobbing him for not caring about the guy
is there a reason chat is disabled for the show?
I just got home
oh i guess I'm watching the replay and I missed the show
Welcome to my Wednesdays
