I have a friend who was attending WSU for Mechanical Engineering but he made a lot of mistakes, and goofed. He took a year off, and I think he stopped attempting to go back. He's been part of a shitty scene and now works at Walmart or something.

Not sure if he has debt.

2019-07-19 06:37:11 UTC

theres no governing body that certifies a tech. so you can work on a car with out one

2019-07-19 06:37:36 UTC

@[DGI]tech I have two friends who are going to college and both are doing service security which is a lot of money but my one friend who's really smart and everything you know spent a lot of time on school. and I'm the type of person I can't sit in a classroom for 2 hours a day did learn something with 50 other people

2019-07-19 06:37:43 UTC

at the dealership level, a lot start out in quick lube and then work their way to line tech

2019-07-19 06:38:09 UTC

@Big T I've had people tell me that working in a dealership is okay but not great there's a lot of BS you have to deal with

2019-07-19 06:38:27 UTC

Honestly, my buddy is a smart cookie if he puts his mind too it, but just lazy. I'm sure he could be better off if he worked towards becoming a Mechanic and working his way up, but who knows his life goals now.

2019-07-19 06:38:30 UTC

@Deleted User I'm always surprised how many engineers I meet on Discord.

2019-07-19 06:38:31 UTC

i was a dealership level mercedes benz tech. i liked it. the bs is the same as any shop imo.

2019-07-19 06:38:48 UTC

we have warranty to deal with, but its not bad and you get used to the protocals

2019-07-19 06:38:55 UTC

@xbigmoneygrip Yearp, that seems to the dichotomy nowadays.

2019-07-19 06:38:58 UTC

@Big T that was my thing I was like I've never really talked to anybody who worked in the dealerships I don't know if it's just you know you have a crappy manager or if it's just the deals for business in general

2019-07-19 06:39:30 UTC

a lot of guys can cut it at the dealership level, they get shitcanned for cutting corners etc

2019-07-19 06:39:32 UTC

@[DGI]tech on my one friend did all the extra classes and everything in high school what is the smart guy and he has all As

2019-07-19 06:39:40 UTC

those dudes yell the loudest

2019-07-19 06:39:44 UTC

I originally wanted to go to UDUB and then found out they wouldn't accept my IT credits, and found out that the classes taught were all garbage anyway.

2019-07-19 06:39:51 UTC

So here I am working towards certifications.

2019-07-19 06:40:02 UTC

whenever an independent cant fix a car, they always send it to us

2019-07-19 06:40:04 UTC

I might attend WGU in the future.

2019-07-19 06:40:12 UTC

we get all the factory training and special tools

2019-07-19 06:40:22 UTC

@Big T what you said supposed to start out as a mechanic.

2019-07-19 06:40:23 UTC

Also, ha. I did extremely poorly in High-School.

2019-07-19 06:40:32 UTC

Freshman and Sophomore year was a collective 1.3 GPA or something?

2019-07-19 06:40:37 UTC

If you want to be a mechanic

2019-07-19 06:40:37 UTC

I just barely graduated.

2019-07-19 06:40:43 UTC

The latter two years were roughly 2.4.

2019-07-19 06:40:51 UTC

Yikes. Were you just goofing off?

2019-07-19 06:40:57 UTC

@xbigmoneygrip "what you said supposed to start out as a mechanic" huh?

2019-07-19 06:41:01 UTC

@[DGI]tech I did average in high school but I knew before your college was not for me.

2019-07-19 06:41:04 UTC

Or was it hard for you?

2019-07-19 06:41:18 UTC

@Big T what's the best way to start out going into you know auto mechanic kind of career area

2019-07-19 06:41:24 UTC

oh!

2019-07-19 06:41:32 UTC

have you worked on your own car before?

2019-07-19 06:41:35 UTC

I had an extremely shitty family, and school dynamics, in addition to being bullied so I want to say I was depressed, and highly cynical so I didn't care.

2019-07-19 06:41:44 UTC

or have any mechanical knowhow?

2019-07-19 06:41:53 UTC

But after my Associates I ended up with a 3.4 or so.

2019-07-19 06:41:56 UTC

Gotcha

2019-07-19 06:42:02 UTC

So I definitely turned it around after H.S.

2019-07-19 06:42:10 UTC

@Big T little. I'm a Hands-On type of person I'm really great with Hands-On stuff I can't sit at a desk it's too boring for me and drives me insane

2019-07-19 06:42:16 UTC

I will say though that I could have graduated 6 months sooner if it wasn't for colleges bullshit classes.

2019-07-19 06:42:20 UTC

Because ma "well roundedness."
