The amount of debt is astonishing, and a large majority are investing in careers that aren't worthwhile in our current market.
Or the ROI is just dogshit.
I love engineering, but I look back and think, "I could have been a mechanic or electrician so much faster."
@xbigmoneygrip not sure what that means
ah
there we go
@Deleted User SAME
What type of Engineering?
mechanical
not really. there is not required cert to work on car
Nice.
steam engines, man
Except I don't even love engineering, I left to work for myself in craft and trades anyway.
that's my porn
Nice I'm an ME too
@Big T that's what I thought. You just need to be a certified mechanic to work a car. For mechanic shop
all shops like to have ASE certs, but theyre not required.
I have a friend who was attending WSU for Mechanical Engineering but he made a lot of mistakes, and goofed. He took a year off, and I think he stopped attempting to go back. He's been part of a shitty scene and now works at Walmart or something.
Not sure if he has debt.
theres no governing body that certifies a tech. so you can work on a car with out one
@[DGI]tech I have two friends who are going to college and both are doing service security which is a lot of money but my one friend who's really smart and everything you know spent a lot of time on school. and I'm the type of person I can't sit in a classroom for 2 hours a day did learn something with 50 other people
at the dealership level, a lot start out in quick lube and then work their way to line tech
@Big T I've had people tell me that working in a dealership is okay but not great there's a lot of BS you have to deal with
Honestly, my buddy is a smart cookie if he puts his mind too it, but just lazy. I'm sure he could be better off if he worked towards becoming a Mechanic and working his way up, but who knows his life goals now.
@Deleted User I'm always surprised how many engineers I meet on Discord.
i was a dealership level mercedes benz tech. i liked it. the bs is the same as any shop imo.
we have warranty to deal with, but its not bad and you get used to the protocals
@xbigmoneygrip Yearp, that seems to the dichotomy nowadays.
@Big T that was my thing I was like I've never really talked to anybody who worked in the dealerships I don't know if it's just you know you have a crappy manager or if it's just the deals for business in general
a lot of guys can cut it at the dealership level, they get shitcanned for cutting corners etc
@[DGI]tech on my one friend did all the extra classes and everything in high school what is the smart guy and he has all As
those dudes yell the loudest
I originally wanted to go to UDUB and then found out they wouldn't accept my IT credits, and found out that the classes taught were all garbage anyway.
So here I am working towards certifications.
whenever an independent cant fix a car, they always send it to us
I might attend WGU in the future.
we get all the factory training and special tools
@Big T what you said supposed to start out as a mechanic.
Also, ha. I did extremely poorly in High-School.
Freshman and Sophomore year was a collective 1.3 GPA or something?
If you want to be a mechanic
