What I'm looking for is a carabiner with a "sleeve" over the pin, like those screw type ones, but with a spring in it. You trust it 9Ø°, opening the gate, hook or unhook it, release the sleeve, and it snaps shut and secured. It's a sub-catagory of a sub-catagory...
