The vape shop thing
Is so jokes
Vaping is bad kids!
and don't sit so close to the TV either!
I said this in the chat too but
Even if the shop can say "we don't serve Trump supporters"
Trump supporters can definitely record that instance and share it around
How many of y'all come from an extremely right leaning family? Can you tell me how much Obama bashing took place?
Just curious.
I come from a fairly left wing family
In fact i dont think i know a single hard core trump fan in real life
By bash, do you mean legitimate criticism or simple pejorative? I ask because my family is quite conservative, but we don't do ad homs.
We are not fond of popular politicians, generally.
I don't know anyone who said anything negative about obama that wasn't grounded in a direct effect from a policy he implemented. Almost all of criticism was about Obamacare.
I bought my dad a shirt that says “NObama: Keep the Change”. Does that count?
Well, the question was how much bashing took place.
That’s merely an example. We had our daily complaints against the president, and we would make fun of him on a regular basis. But it wasn’t anything we would say outside of our family or close friends. Even in Utah, I was called a racist in High School simply for saying I didn’t like Obamacare
Meaning that, while a fair amount of bashing went on, it was never in any public setting because we were well aware of the probable backlash.
On an unrelated note, I have to disagree slightly with Matt and Blonde about Jordan Peterson suing Wilfred Laurier. I wouldn’t describe the interaction between the professors and Lindsay Shepherd as “a private conversation”. It was two professors, speaking on behalf of the University, enforcing University policy. In order to enforce that policy, they, as official representatives of the school, stated that JP was like Hitler and that students couldn’t listen to him because of that. I think that’s a decent case for defamation, especially since the whole point of the meeting was to ensure that students at Wilfred Laurier would not hear JP’s perspective.
I think the thrust of Matt's argument was the cost of the lawsuit. He was not convinced that the defamation (if it was defamation) cost him 1.5 million in some sort of damage.
Isn’t it Canadian money? So how much is that in real money? Lol
@Psychlops924 Not only that, but he only started it because the University didn't change its tune, they are still pushing the same nonsense that caused that problem. So he wants to try teach them something also.
Ha. But I don't think that would change the argument.
1.1 million US, for those wondering
Speaking gigs at Universities can pay a lot. I think the main claim of the dollar amount would be that he had lost the ability to speak at many universities for several years because of the professors’ claims. I don’t think he necessarily would be awarded that much, but I can understand having the big dollar amount attached to it in order to get the University’s attention.
That's a defensible argument.
If it's as @Shadows said, then it seems likely that continuing to refer to him as a nazi will propogate to the student body. And I can't say I'm confident that student bodies do a good job of being critical of claims.
Only speculating.
Its hard to say who was pushing that more in that school, the professors, or the woke student body (that in turn made the professors accept it). I can't say i know which came first.
Also, i think that may have been the very first time i typed the word "woke"..... kill me.
This is how it starts
Back to the other persons question, does saying "Thanks Obama" count?
I'd have to see the arguments made by Peterson's lawsuit, but wouldn't the best argument be that the meeting revealed that the official position of the school had been to disseminate information that peterson was equivalent to a nazi?
For defamation? Conceivably that could be a good argument. But again, Matt was not convinced that the position of the school actually cost Peterson that much money.
