The best research based off of brain scans and post mortem of cis individuals, trans people who took hormones and trans people who never did, etc etc etc, points to it being caused by in utero due to mothers hormones causing the brain structure of the fetus to develop as the opposite sex. Personally, I am not going to try and find out what your preferred way of being addressed is. In direct conversation between two people pronouns don't even come up, so it really shouldn't be a problem unless you make it one.
