That makes me thankful most public interactions with strangers don't involve pronouns, or repeating back names. It's mostly a greeting followed by the purpose of why I'm talking to them

The controls normally use cis, and the test are identified trans women and men, both ones with life long hormone use and those who never did any form of transition to control for HRT

It's hard to say, especially on the net where they just lie. My rule of thumb is easy though : are they on hormones and have they been on hormones for an appropriate amount of time.
