It's hard to say, especially on the net where they just lie. My rule of thumb is easy though : are they on hormones and have they been on hormones for an appropriate amount of time.

The human brain is very plastic, so I’m not convinced by the argument that mtf trannies have female brains from the womb or vice versa. However, I will withhold final judgment because research is still ongoing. In the meantime I will just avoid pronouns as much as possible.
