On a serious note, demanding for extra info for basic functionality = immediate suspicion

@Beemann - oh! I thought my work network had done something funky to my dissenter plugin and thats why it was asking me to update permissions.

2019-03-13 13:38:32 UTC

apparently they are removing the bit of code that has triggered that check from google. Torba didnt go into detail about what it was for exactly but I think it is something to do with the tabs in the extension itself rather than actual browser history as the warning claimed.

2019-03-13 14:27:39 UTC

huh. i wonder how it decides what counts as toxic? probably everything i've ever posted online would end up being filtered out as toxic.

2019-03-13 14:27:59 UTC

...well, not everything. i do tend to put a lot of "awwwwww'" comments on pictures of pitbull puppies.

2019-03-13 14:28:11 UTC

then again, they're pitties so anything related to them would be toxic.

2019-03-13 14:28:17 UTC

no winning on that one i guess.

2019-03-13 14:42:16 UTC

Anything that's wrongthink, of course

2019-03-13 15:47:22 UTC

you could actualy try out to see what was considered toxic lol

2019-03-13 15:47:26 UTC

they had a website before

2019-03-13 15:47:28 UTC

like a year or two ago

2019-03-13 15:47:38 UTC

ppl typed in random shit and it told u if it was toxic or not

2019-03-13 15:48:01 UTC

as usual, if u trashed whites or men or straights, it was not considered toxic lmfao

2019-03-13 17:28:12 UTC
2019-03-13 17:28:17 UTC

That's how tune will work.

2019-03-13 17:39:20 UTC

yeah basically lol

2019-03-13 22:03:40 UTC

I take no issue if the opposition wants to hide their heads in the sand

2019-03-13 22:04:40 UTC

They're going to make you hide your head soon too comrade.

2019-03-13 22:05:39 UTC

Not a viable strategy unless we go full China and then also outdo their efficiency in catching people skipping past it

2019-03-13 22:07:01 UTC

nah, they'll just ruin chrome by putting it into your browser.

2019-03-13 22:07:07 UTC

then tell you to make your own browser.

2019-03-13 22:07:45 UTC

You mean like the multitude of other browsers that already exist?

2019-03-13 22:07:57 UTC

Plus it's all FOSS. You can just fork it

2019-03-13 22:09:55 UTC

They'll regulate those out of existence.

2019-03-13 22:10:10 UTC

and block payment processors.

2019-03-13 22:10:58 UTC

Regulate what? An entire software license?

2019-03-13 22:11:15 UTC

Block payment processors to volunteer projects? Ban old versions of software?

2019-03-13 22:12:30 UTC

Somebody will try, I'm sure

2019-03-13 22:12:35 UTC

Like I know this is, to a certain extent, shitposting, but I just want to make it super clear that attempting to take over FOSS is like laying claim to language. You can certainly try, but you won't do much

2019-03-13 22:13:01 UTC

Like the big Linux scare

2019-03-13 22:13:21 UTC

It's like taking over Webster's dictionary and people saying English is ruined forever

2019-03-13 22:16:20 UTC

I know its impossible to do (I work in software) but you can make it very VERY costly.

2019-03-13 22:16:33 UTC

there's a reason why people are afraid of apple's legal team.

2019-03-13 22:17:12 UTC

and there have been attempts in the past to copyright sections of code, or designs that were FOSS.

2019-03-13 22:17:36 UTC

while they don't work in the long run, they can ruin your life getting there.

2019-03-13 22:18:54 UTC

also liberals HAVE taken over websters and ruined it.

2019-03-13 22:18:55 UTC

If we're just talking about abusive lawsuits, that applies to basically anything. That said, it won't destroy the work itself. At worst, people won't be able to update a fork without a change or rebrand
