different field
entirely
I've lost passion for what I was originally in
im a CS undergrad at UC Berkeley. what field were you in?
thats rough. I just jumped over to IT/Networking, though that was also because work/life in software engineering seemed kinda shit, particularly in my region
this clown meme is besmirching the good name of clowns #justiceforPogo
H J Ö N K
@Big T I was in ChemEnginering, going into Data Science or something now
at least trying to
for sure. ive noticed social justice invading stem a lot as well. data science is just as bad imo. probably because its new.
@A Cup Of Covfefe How far into your PhD were you?
Motherfuckers...
@Kael Climate 2 years
Less bad than I thought tbh. Not ideal, but could be a lot worse
That's a pretty openly brazen hit piece on Sargon
Sargon’s response in <#266400976267640833>
Lol that article
putting on head banging hard rock while your hair is still wet is like blue balls. #LongHairProblems
So where do I find out more about this Minneapolis meetup?
when im not doing school work or being social lol
Watching the Sunday night stream & yes, PsychoPass is relevant
>Psycho Pass
Psycho-Pass
A show about a future in which an entire system is constructed in a way that shows the creators dont actually understand mental illness and are just being edgy boys :^)
Either that or nearly everyone in-setting is a smoothbrain
They show how certain mental disorders are dealt with as well as the fact that plenty of people are on some form of medication for their hue (likely mood stabilizers)
It's a show wherein the designers of the system assumed trauma = you're a criminal now and didn't account for basic bitch psycopathy. It plays that straight for a whole season to do generic edgy anime serial killers. That's about where I lost interest.
They do include sociopaths/psychopaths as variants as well as people with natural anxiety/created anxiety. They even talk about a child being designated a criminal.
My original thought though was that it is relevant because even in a "perfect" system evil can still exist. Those who are designated "bad" aren't necessarily evil or violent and just because the system recognizes someone as "good" doesn't mean they aren't capable of harming others.
All the while though people have given up their rights so that this "system" can keep them safe. They don't need personal protections because the system is all powerful & without flaws. They don't need to think for themselves because it's dangerous to question things, it's better to just have the apporved news tell them what's going on. They're assigned jobs based in aptitude & everyone lives in their happy little world. But corruption exists, it will always exist, no matter how much people give up to the government.
Corruption exists *because* people give things up to the government
Exactly?
Also the core point of reference (a system attempting to be utopian that ultimately fails) should actually not be the concern. The concern should be a system that succeeds at its core goals, but still continues to attempt to micromanage the citizenry. Brave New World is a perfect example of this - the system works from a baseline utilitarian standpoint of greatest happiness for the largest amount of people. Drugs, "free love", the breakup of the family, genetic engineering and relocation of subversive elements all are utilized to provide the least amount of "fuss" for the average person. Work weeks, drug doses, etc are all carefully measured out for optimal happiness
This probably wouldn't be an impossible system to set up, really. So long as all the demands of the citizenry are kept simple. That, and the systems efficacy, are what are horrifying. A stratified, sedated society, ruled from above even on a purely reproductive and genetic level
At that point the corruption ultimately doesn't matter, so long as the feeding tube never stops
🤢
Further the issue I pointed out with Psycho-Pass is that the society's predictive system assumes that its designers are utter morons. The hue system is stated to be based on stress levels. This already fails to take onto account current day psych 101 knowledge. The show then treats this knowledge like a surprise
Here is something disgusting!! 25 year old black man throws 5 year old white kid off of 3rd story balcony at Mall of America.. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/emmanuel-aranda-mall-of-america-balcony-threw-boy-went-planning-to-kill-authorities-say/?fbclid=IwAR1rNynI_NzlYikuDFgFhgC9SO8js2WjYkEeQw4nKgmrjMh-qSbh6_SNJ7Y

Can you prove that it was racially motivated?
