excuse my naivete, but what's this testifying for?
I just moved from AZ, but grew up there
where y'all at?
Besides Yuma, think I know for you
haha I lived in NW Tucson before moving
Good times.
Now i live in NYC. Whoop de doo
It's been like 4 months and I'm still adjusting
I live in Brooklyn. Ahahaha
I'm a professor ama
but in STEM, I can't help with english/politics profs
not even worth trying to "reason" with them
what part of Brooklyn, do you remember?
yeah
if you're committing wrongthink I don't think you'll be getting good grades
how big is this class, @ViperZ ?
Gotcha gotcha
idk there aren't really any italian communities anymore in Brooklyn
^
what? haha
anywhere in that range?
ooohhh
exactly
I can barely grade classes with 30 students
there's also a possibility that you get a different TA for each assignment
so there's a chance you're not screwed
just be careful with what you say
yeah good luck with that
not to be mean, but you won't get far with that argument
I can't speak for poli sci, but just my experience with academics in those types of departments, they won't do jack
I lied about my opinion a ton when I was in undergrad
if it's a significant grade, it's better to do that
otherwise, just do whatever
do you get feedback?
if you get feedback about writing style or whatever, that's one thing. If it's feedback about your argument, that's another
Honestly you probably had TA's grade that stuff. PoliSci Grad Students + Right Wing Views = No bueno
that's a shame
Even my TA's, in a STEM field, have kind of been hit or miss with craziness
well I don't want to give too much away. But I'm in Engineering
If you don't want to do STEM, don't
I've seen too many go into it thinking they'll do great because high school told them they were amazing and then bomb
it wasn't pretty
that's always a solid path
oh I know
I remember on the podcast Blonde was outraged that STEAM was becoming a thing
I've been seeing that for a long time coming
I've almost had to forcibly pass minority student's assignments they've otherwise failed
but you throw a big enough fuss and my department usually steps down
There's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes. It's a bit depressing
@RoadtoDawn I could go on a rant for days. I choose not to think about it
it's not that I don't care. It's just that if I think about it constantly my life would be miserable
luckily if I raise a fuss, it's usually alright.
And keep in mind, it's only happened maybe 2-3 times in my entire teaching career
so it's not INCREDIBLY common, but I'm just one person at one school
in one department
it's a stay-low sort of situation right now
but I know I'm not the only person in my department that's not a crazy lefty
let that be some optimism
I can't with humidity
I'm from Arizona ๐
it's pretty bad when you're accustomed to <10% your whole life
I live in a place where it's like 50% now and I was dying over the summer
Felt like a neckbeard with all my forehead sweat and pit stains
is it centralized tho?
My apartment doesn't have centralized AC and it's rough
Regardless, I like my current institution. I'll be OK here even if overall the school is a bit psycho
I know Purdue has a great STEM program
not south, but still
oh
fuck
yes
dunno if it's just me, but I think it's even worse in the desert.
Well the air is so dry, the pollen takes up all the space in the air!
there's nothing to dilute it
dry air makes your throat scratchy as is
so pollen doesn't make it any better
@ViperZ I'm not a polisci expert, but that looks fine to me
except that last little bit sounds weird
"and a less free and democratic society"
yeah if it's 2000 words you need to make it clearly distinct theme otherwise it's going to be obvious you're BSing lol
that sometimes helps me
I guess "slippery slope" isn't really formal writing
Talking to a girl I like but she's an English major...I am proceeding with caution.
I'm aborting mission as soon as I get the slightest hint of crazy
hard enough to get dates nowadays
guess I'll gauge it from there
I have no issue taking charge, just hard to tell whether that's "acceptable" anymore
yeah I have to be careful with my job lol
what if a gay man switches to straight?
think it gets worse over time
?
I know some gay men who've gone straight or bi after a while
@Saint It's interesting. Could be trend, but I know it's not universal with all gay men
REE
so head's up, I was gay, now I'm bi. But it's interesting how the nurture/psychology side plays a role in it
@Salacious Swanky Cat I would if I didn't absolutely despise children
don't @ me blonde
I don't want to think that and then realize I still hate children AFTER I have to deal with one now
was it Milo that said gay men should reproduce?
I do actually know a gay man who has a 14 year old drag queen son
