@Goose I dont know about other germanic languages, though I guess its similar in the Netherlands or nordic countries. But Italian and Spanish have gendered articles as well. Which germanic languages were you thinking of? Swiss and Austrian are basically just german with an accent.

I don't have a problem with the idea that sex is your biological state and gender is the social-cultural behaviors that go along with your sex. But the gender-theorists have twisted it so far into this nonsense that it might be best just to scrap the whole thing.

If we do keep the idea, there are two sexes, male and female. There are some uncommon people that aberrate from the norms but that doesn't mean they get their own primary categories. There are also two genders, man and woman/boy and girl. There are also some aberrations in this regard that also do not merit different primary categories.

My litmus test is 'if it has a Y chromosome it's male'. Very simple.

I like the distinction of 'you can't *be* a gender' @Legalize. A gender is a role, an appearance, a set of expectations. You can *conform* or *deviate*. And people have a right to deviate as long as they recognize that I also have a right to keep their deviancy away from my children, and that they don't get extra privileges.
