what is the opinion here on the arms trade act being dropped?
Hey guys, help me out: Has there ever been a single long-term (5+ years) climate prediction that's come true?
If your definition is loose enough.
If there was, I'm sure we all would have heard about it by now
"Tides every 12 hours or so" has a pretty good track record for example.
That's the thing. People cite recent stories of droughts or fires, trying to retroactively prove long-term climate predictions with individual weather events.
It's easy to take post scriptive data and read it as prescriptive. Buts it's not a guarantee
I mentioned there hasn't been a single prediction come true in 50 years, and ten different people attacked me for it. No one believes me anyway, but I've REALLY looked. I can't find one.
"blah blah doesn't matter if the scientists are wrong we need to do something what are you saying that we should do nothing at all?"
People always day "absence of evidence is not evidence for absence " buuuutttt
It's insane. People wouldn't bet you their weekly paycheck on what the weather will be next week, but they want to bet trillions of dollars on the fact that they know what it'll be 50 years from now
Just do what you can in your power to reduce your personal carbon footprints
@GoGoGadgetWang1 I mentioned that. Uncertainty in probabilities stack, and the best we can go on is historical precedent. But they claim I don't know the difference between weather and climate, which is precisely the fallacy they use to "prove" their side.
Well they say that when it doesn't fit their narrative. But at the same time, they'll turn around and use weather to prove climate when it suits them
So yeah, like you said. And I don't mean to come off as in I don't think humans have an effect on the climate. We do
But what's going on now has blown past being reasonable. It's a religion now, a cult.
Right. So far as I can tell, the pro and con sides have converged to agree with each other on most everything except the outcomes and if/what/how to do anything about it.
But if you find a prediction that's come true, even remotely, I want to know. I think I'm going to start using the "name one" argument as short hand for put up or shut up against these people.
my mom is reading off some horseshit from some globalist article whining about the danger of Trumpian nationalism

The thing the article fails to address, because it's at the core of the wider immigration debate, is that people wreck their home, and then move to a new place and enact the same dystopian shit in their new neighbors.
