they are not like... ON THE BRINK of creating totally autonomous trucks in the next 4 years

they cannot drive if there is anything covering the lines such as snow... but somehow someone will wirelessly be abel to transmit into the vehicle and take control

it will be a lonnnnggg time until the safety admin's of this country will allow a xton truck drive w/e human intervention down the highway

what do you mean "if they cant do it with trains", they do, trains pretty much run themselves and have for like 2 decades

and look at the statistics of autopilot on Tesla

if that ssytem went down and then thousands of 18 whellers all of a sudden were out of control they would make a train wreck look like a dropped egg

Yes correct, that is going to be the legal and safety related hangup

and thats all my point was

getting that passed regaurdless of how safe anything is will be a major legislative challenge

its going to take many many years of proof in testing and a fail safe system before they leave the cockpit and shotgun seat empty

but they will do it in the next decade or something

but the way the trucking business works is, most companies do not have the time capital or interest in investing in a fleet of trucks.

so the people who own them privately, automation will only make their business more profitable

No no but the trucking companies are not the ones who would fund or develop that

people who work for a trucking company may suffer

Not to interrupt here, but the fact that most trucking companies have trucks which are at least ~25 years old with God knows how many flips of the odometer

You would have some giant tech subsidiary dev shop doing research builds on that and end up selling the solution to many trucking companies

but the reality is jobs that do not require the operation of vehicles that can kill people at a moments notice are much less likely to be 100% taken over than other professions that AI can do in an office w/o the safety facotr

Might take a while to switch to fully autopilot trucks, especially if their prices are more or less the same as a brand new truck

they could take the loss and carry it over.. maybe they could do another sudo "cash for clunkers" failure policy but i do not feel business's would fall for it like the gen public would

Because I used to work in body repair

well if you can prove that its less likely to fail than the human rate, then the insurance rate would go down

then beep the driver to wake up

but when the driver wakes up are they able to take control
