But I imagine all the good components cost

2017-07-04 15:22:50 UTC

It's not *that* bad. And mine's more customized than fully custom, but I did go the cheap route purely to learn.

2017-07-04 15:23:27 UTC

To be truly custom I'd need a 3D printer, of all the meme things.

2017-07-04 15:23:38 UTC

I wonder if you could make a faux version of one of the Neo Geo ones with the click pad

2017-07-04 15:25:17 UTC

Sure.

2017-07-04 15:27:31 UTC

That's the kind of stuff I wish you could just straight out buy - clone controllers with good components

2017-07-04 15:27:38 UTC

If you're looking to make or mod a controller with mechanical switches, 100 grams of actuation force seems to be the sweet spot.

2017-07-04 15:27:59 UTC

AND it's also difficult to find cheapo surface mounted components that fit that particular bill.

2017-07-04 15:28:35 UTC

Friend of mine tells me I should start selling them.

2017-07-04 15:28:40 UTC

I'd rather just sell the mod service tbh.

2017-07-04 15:29:23 UTC

Much easier that way

2017-07-04 15:30:38 UTC

Certainly for me.

2017-07-04 15:31:18 UTC

Wouldn't need to stock anything but components. No worrying about sourcing good quality controllers, original or otherwise.

2017-07-04 15:46:11 UTC

@transience What radio are you using to spy on folks?

2017-07-04 15:47:40 UTC

shitty binatone pmr446 radio that you can buy from any department store

2017-07-04 15:47:52 UTC

had one sitting in my drawer for years

2017-07-04 15:49:05 UTC

Ah, I was hoping for something chinky to buy.

2017-07-04 15:49:19 UTC

you can get radios that do it from China

2017-07-04 15:49:24 UTC

but they aren't that cheap

2017-07-04 15:49:43 UTC

I bought a baofeng uv-5r from amazon, same price as ali but ships from the UK

2017-07-04 15:49:47 UTC

should be here tomorrow

2017-07-04 15:50:39 UTC

you can sometimes find tecsuns cheaper and for what they do at how small they are it's pretty good value I'd say

2017-07-04 15:50:56 UTC

if all you want to do is snoop on people like @Transience#0182 is

2017-07-04 15:51:11 UTC

👍

2017-07-04 15:52:00 UTC

i got a Baofeng UVB2 probably 6months ago but i couldnt figure out how to listen in on peoples conversations after an hour or 2 i gave up

2017-07-04 15:52:03 UTC

How much better would they work for listening in, compared to tbe uv-5r?

2017-07-04 15:52:31 UTC

I don't own a Tecsun so I can't say, I know they're heavily memed in ham radio circles though

2017-07-04 15:52:57 UTC

for being so portable yet powerful as a LW/SW scanner

2017-07-04 15:54:22 UTC

this looks badass tbh

2017-07-04 15:58:20 UTC

I have some super vintage German comm radio I found in the woods as a kiddo.

2017-07-04 16:00:20 UTC

yeah those are cool, I had an old Realistic scanner but I sold it

2017-07-04 16:01:20 UTC

not as many things to snoop around my area

2017-07-04 16:05:20 UTC

Found the sucker. 👍

2017-07-04 16:07:04 UTC

very aesthetic

2017-07-04 16:09:39 UTC

I wonder if it can pick anything up.

2017-07-04 16:09:41 UTC

Might save me $25.

2017-07-04 16:09:57 UTC

I mean, it might be busted. I never even tried powering the thing up.

2017-07-04 16:10:14 UTC

radio waves don't really change so I'd imagine so if it works
