means phones that last for weeks

2018-11-17 19:57:42 UTC

that takes minutes to charge

2018-11-17 19:57:45 UTC

and is paper thin

2018-11-17 19:57:50 UTC

it's more or less a decade away I guess

2018-11-17 19:58:17 UTC

power banks would become redundant in this theoretical future

2018-11-17 19:59:59 UTC

there's been talk of "revolutionary battery tech hitting your electronics very soon" for like a decade now

2018-11-17 20:00:08 UTC

we're stuck with what we have

2018-11-17 20:00:11 UTC

like it or not

2018-11-17 20:00:34 UTC

@Jignx that depends, if there's abundant power that means we will stick more powerful processors in the phone to make use of that power which means we end up right back where we started

2018-11-17 20:00:43 UTC

Yeah, any capacity boost will be a grind but it is slowly getting better.

2018-11-17 20:02:05 UTC

remember how almost ever year at every electronics convention Samsung kept showing off the foldable screen tech and everyone was like "OMG NEXT YEAR"

2018-11-17 20:02:22 UTC

it's the same with battery tech, only even longer before we get any useful improvements

2018-11-17 20:02:26 UTC

they're going to make as much money as they can off of current tech first

2018-11-17 20:02:49 UTC

also very few companies actually do r&d into battery tech because it's expensive

2018-11-18 03:07:25 UTC

not really chink shit buy but my iflash quad arrived, thinking of making this a long term project and putting like 4 x 256gb microsd cards or even higher

I remember doing a ssd conversion with my ipod 5th gen. Be careful when you pry off the back... I ended up creating a nasty gap between the back and the faceplate

2018-11-18 03:53:01 UTC

@muki Gonna be doing the same with a msata ssd

2018-11-18 05:06:09 UTC

What are those little plastic prybars you use on that sorta thing called? I've been meaning to order a few, but I always forget to order them and just use a gift card or expired credit card or something instead.

2018-11-18 05:07:23 UTC

@Deleted User don’t forget to replace the battery while you are at it. Every time you pry that sucker open, the metal tab that clips on to the face loosens up

2018-11-18 05:10:12 UTC

@timsandtoms I just call em plastic pry tool. I personally prefer the guitar pick looking ones though.

2018-11-18 05:23:03 UTC

@muki What tool is most suggested to get underneath the metal casing?
