@Deleted User Why would free will not be a thing

2018-12-29 11:18:26 UTC

???

2018-12-29 11:18:52 UTC

its implies free of causality or externalities

2018-12-29 11:19:02 UTC

even relatively

2018-12-29 11:19:08 UTC

its still a hard position to defend

2018-12-29 11:19:19 UTC

hard position to defend free will or go against it ?

2018-12-29 11:21:17 UTC

to defend free will

2018-12-29 11:23:50 UTC

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you have the choice between a green colored t-shirt or a yellow colored t-shirt and you choose the green one because you like it and green is your favourite color, but you go back and purchase the yellow one because you don't want a entire closet full of green colored t-shirts, you make the choice yourself don't you ??

2018-12-29 11:24:14 UTC

choice doesnt equate free will

2018-12-29 11:24:24 UTC

you made that choice cause of externalities

2018-12-29 11:24:31 UTC

yea

2018-12-29 11:24:35 UTC

you base choice on reason

2018-12-29 11:25:00 UTC

What's defined as free will then? @Deleted User

2018-12-29 11:25:40 UTC

@windmill man freedom of humans to make choices that are not determined by prior causes or by divine intervention

2018-12-29 11:26:34 UTC

free will taken to its logical conclusion basically contradicts causality or is contingent on some form of belief in the supernatural

2018-12-29 11:27:29 UTC

But aren't all choices based on free will then

2018-12-29 11:27:57 UTC

It's hard for me to understand your position

2018-12-29 11:28:29 UTC

no

2018-12-29 11:28:42 UTC

choices would be dependent on previous casual affects

2018-12-29 11:29:09 UTC

Could you give a example?

2018-12-29 11:29:21 UTC

okay

2018-12-29 11:29:32 UTC

@windmill man do you have the choice to move your right hand?

2018-12-29 11:29:38 UTC

I do

2018-12-29 11:30:02 UTC

Normally it's a unconscious process but the moment I think to myself I want to move my hand I can

2018-12-29 11:30:02 UTC

@windmill man if i were to cut it off. Afterwards would you have the choice to move your right hand?

2018-12-29 11:30:24 UTC

not anymore, my brain would still send the signals but there would no longer be a right hand

2018-12-29 11:30:58 UTC

@windmill man thats because your choice is restricted by the state of reality and the casual effects that exist in it

2018-12-29 11:31:19 UTC

so you wouldnt have that choice

2018-12-29 11:31:25 UTC

now can you control your brain?

2018-12-29 11:31:31 UTC

The entire world is restricted by nature laws isnt it

2018-12-29 11:31:59 UTC

I can control my brain, because my brain is still there, and I can reach it without breaking the laws of physics
