Silver is nice for a lot of reasons. Much more practical than gold.

Easier to authenticate, bacteria can't live on it, it's a decent conductor.

It's main disadvantage though is that it oxidies

theyre called challenge coins, and they used to be a really big deal for a long time. someone superior to you likes something you did, they give you the coin. the higher the rank and/or the bigger the coin, the more "value" it has. i think traditionally they're minted for officers to give to lower enlisted, but idk for sure. anyway you carry around either the biggest or most valuable one
