All the dead Ukrainians didn’t help

2019-02-25 19:54:49 UTC

From what I know of imperial rule the shit that the Tsar was pushing was more akin to colonialism and settlement of the interior. Not based on shoring up labor shortages or getting access to resources like Stalin was pushing so hard for.

2019-02-25 19:55:20 UTC

Although it was surely about resources, I dont think it was done in the same vein as Stalin's crack at it.

2019-02-25 19:55:35 UTC

I don't see much difference tbh

2019-02-25 19:55:36 UTC

That said I dont know as much about imperial Russia.

The main difference is that there were much more Poles and Lithuanians resettled during the Tsarist rule, but that's pretty obvious

2019-02-25 19:56:57 UTC

There's still a considerable number of Poles in Syberia and Kazakhstan because of that

2019-02-25 19:57:44 UTC

In my country there is problem

2019-02-25 19:57:58 UTC

I mean, because of GULAG to, but during the communist rule it was mainly Russians and Ukrainians who would get resettled East

2019-02-25 19:58:07 UTC

What's the problem and what's the country?

2019-02-25 20:00:08 UTC

Ignore that

2019-02-25 20:01:01 UTC

How many people were sent to the gulags roughly?

2019-02-25 20:02:15 UTC

Hard to say, especially because we don't have access to the official data

2019-02-25 20:02:47 UTC

If we're speaking only about people send to lagers in gulag system, it was few hundreds of thousands iirc

2019-02-25 20:03:13 UTC

>Figures supposedly compiled by the Gulag administration itself (and released by Soviet historians in 1989) show that a total of 10 million people were sent to the camps in the period from 1934 to 1947. The true figures remain unknown.

2019-02-25 20:03:39 UTC

Shit, I probably mixed the numbers with numbers of Poles in lagers

2019-02-25 20:03:53 UTC

>Lagers

2019-02-25 20:03:54 UTC

I'm pretty sure I've heard the number 400 000

2019-02-25 20:03:59 UTC

I too enjoy the taste of a lager.

Nothing like liquid Poland in your beer to get you fucked up amirite?

2019-02-25 20:04:14 UTC

It means "camp" in German and Russian

2019-02-25 20:04:29 UTC

The one thing they agree upon

2019-02-25 20:05:42 UTC

I think the numbers are inflated but still

2019-02-25 20:06:08 UTC

>According to a 1993 study of archival Soviet data, a total of 1,053,829 people died in the Gulag(not including labor colonies) from 1934 to 1953 (there was no archival data for the period 1919–1934).
