@Deleted User Also, Lenin didn't "join in later," that was Trotsky. Lenin had been a member of the Russian Social Democratic Labor Party for ages, and was a prominent member. When the split between the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks occurred, he was the paramount leader.
Mao was also a Marxist-Leninist, who applied Marxism-Leninism to the material conditions of China. Through revolutionary praxis he added to the theory, which then became known as Marxism-Leninism-Mao Zedong Thought.

@Deleted User You do realize that it wasn't even formed in Russia, right? It was formed in Belarus. And the Second Party Congress was held in Brussels, as many members had been exiled for anti-Tsarist activity.
Lenin was also a member of the St. Petersburg League of Struggle for the Emancipation of the Working Class, which was created before the RSDLP. In fact, he was essentially the unofficial leader of that organization.
He was calling the shots even after being imprisoned lol.
