You don’t look at the past of a nation you are criticizing is untrustworthy because of its past
Nice
As in, I don't have a catalogue if their actions spanning 100 years
but I do know enough about their actions interacting with countries and situations that I *am* interested about
and yes, shit's fucked
Just off the top of your head. Can you think of anything the US has done that you don’t hate?
Anything at all
Internationally speaking
well ww2 was neat
took a while
but they did it
oh also they did the new deal
that was smart
can't think of much else tbh
I see
idk, the US is shit and does shit things
it's not alone in that regard
The UK was shit too
and spain
and iran
No country is perfect, after all
We definitely could've won in Vietnam because of the Paris Peace Accords, but then we stopped sending supply to the South Vietnamese because congress didn't want to
That was quite a large fuckup
I also don't believe we should've supported the creation of a Jewish State in the Middle East
Sure, Israel's been a pretty goddamn stable and ethical nation, plus it's the Jewish homeland and they naturally deserve a spot there, but the consequences of the destabilization of the Middle East as a whole just weren't worth it

I mean the Vietnam War would’ve been different if congress had actually declared war on North Vietnam. Since they didn’t we were basically restricted to a defensive war. In other words, it was the Vietcong that decided (for the most part) when and where any battle took place and since they didn’t have to worry about keeping troops at home to defend against an invasion, they could use their whole military might for offensive.
Vietnam was basically a clusterfuck of mistakes by the US
@Firefly can you ban this doxxer please
so I feel terrible now
because I saw this "doxx" BEFORE I saw Bat'ko explain that it wasn't him
and now I feel bad for annoying my favorite anarkiddie
@killsometime Agreed.
Coupled with the general incompetency of the South Vietnamese Army without the aid of the US Army and the growing anti-war counter-culture in the U.S., it just wasn't a war we could've won easily, if at all.
It was something we could’ve won imo. If from the very beginning, Congress would’ve declared war on North Vietnam and made the Vietnam War an actual war, then we would’ve had the green light to invade the North rather than wait for the North to invade the South. You have to remember that at this time, the US is still moderately fresh out of WW2 and the massive island hopping campaign against the Japanese which all had the same environment and tactics that the Vietcong would’ve used in a defense of North Vietnam. The US could’ve very easily overwhelmed the North with a full out offensive on all sides. The only way I could see that never happening would be if China did what they did in Korea and bail them out. Essentially creating another Korea situation but in Vietnam. Either way, it wouldn’t have been seen as a complete US defeat.
Better governance of the South would’ve been nice too though
