the islands were "undiscovered" in 1989 because of an expedition where they found nothing
but there was another planned expedition to the area in 1981 that failed because the ship sank

maybe someone was trying to hide something

and I heard rumors that there was a soviet expedition to the area and that they found something under one of the islands

something about a deepwater site
