i have no problem with a territory seceding
but a state
an integrated part of your country
....
A state is supposed to be an anonymous entity, the point of a federation is that the central government derives its authority from the consent of the states
in a federation one cannot leave the ocuntry
Unless you want some kind of empire
*country
d i r e c t r u l e f r o m w a s h i n g t o n
thats why china wont let taiwan secede
and im ok with that
So your notion is based entirely on legal status?
i.e. if it's technically a state it can't secede?
if they share the same rights as the state
and they would need permission from the gov
winning war is an option
Well obviously no government would ever allow that
south sudan
imagine thinking sudan is a country
Fair enough, but it's not as though US politicians will allow it
So?
now they arent
What's wrong with the south seceding?
1 they claimed us territories
(even if you dont include the south itself
like kentucky which majority wanted to stay
They'd probably want to go these days
they also did not hold referndum
So what? US democracy is representative.
so if you want to secede you need support from the peopel
otherwise you get a shit country
Well they voted in candidates who were pro-secession
not really secession happened quite fast
and most people were drafted into the rebel army
Anti-northern sentiment existed for some time
there is anti english sentiment
The north drafted people too mate, both sides were just desparate for soldiers
should scotland secede
Well they voted didn't they?
the southerners didnt
