But here's the catch: with self-awareness, we also gain the necessary tools to shape our own meaning, that is why we have clashes of ideology. We can, within our means, create and also destroy. This means that nihilism is a self-defeating philosophy. Just because meaning isn't something that is underlying the rules of nature, it doesn't mean that whatever meaning we *choose* to assign to life is invalid.

Our basic drive and desire to survive and procreate is what keeps us going on. The biological imperative makes us stay, anything beyond that is something we, as individuals, have to figure out on our own

That's fine, I do that too. Just don't think about it too much, currently there isn't anything we can do to prevent death, we can only prolong life.

2019-06-12 11:34:53 UTC

I don't wanna live foreveeeah

2019-06-12 11:35:04 UTC

Who knows, maybe in a few centuries or even decades we will have the technology to digitalize our consciousness.

2019-06-12 11:35:19 UTC

Then again, we don't even know what consciousness is and how it works in the first place so it might just be a fluke

2019-06-12 11:35:31 UTC

@lemion hey we are going to have f35s too

2019-06-12 11:41:39 UTC

I believe nihilists are people that roughly know what nihilism entails but haven't thoroughly thought about it

2019-06-12 11:43:07 UTC

i believe dolphins are conscious because they rape people they hold a grudge against

2019-06-12 11:43:27 UTC

Dolphins are in fact considered self-conscious as far as I'm aware

2019-06-12 11:45:26 UTC

Worth

2019-06-12 11:45:30 UTC

Anyway to sum it up: Nihilism depends on the notion that meaning has to come from the *outside*, and with the advance of science and the realization that, no, God does probably not exist, we have lost that foothold. We're currently on the process of discovering that purpose may also come from the *inside*, and this greatly confuses us, because the world is already a confusing as fuck place. We seek guidance to assign purpose, not realizing that we don't *need* guidance, and we're afraid of that.
