In a Jo Nesbos book (I know, he's a Norwegian, bus still Scandinavian) there is a funny plot hole, where a criminal got caught because he paid for an unsupervised mountain shelter. It didn't occur to the author a murderer would be as dastardly as not to pay for his lodging

it would be better if during the story the character would be established in such a way as to find a proper reason to pay
