2019-09-03 20:55:48 UTC

Alright folks, I've got a language question

2019-09-03 20:56:11 UTC

I'm a Yank, and I speak English, but I'm interested in language and would love to learn other languages

2019-09-03 20:56:23 UTC

learn gerrman

2019-09-03 20:56:49 UTC

I've noticed that most languages, notably German, have a sort of breathy consonant sound at times that I just seem incapable of producing

2019-09-03 20:56:51 UTC

lots of worthwhile literature and you have several germans learners here

2019-09-03 20:57:05 UTC

I'm curious how to make that sound, lol

2019-09-03 20:57:13 UTC

example?

2019-09-03 20:57:18 UTC

the one in 'nicht'?

2019-09-03 20:57:26 UTC

Best example I can think of is like the word Admiral

2019-09-03 20:57:30 UTC

wat

2019-09-03 20:57:40 UTC

the r?

2019-09-03 20:57:51 UTC

2019-09-03 20:57:51 UTC

In German I usually hear it with, like, an "h" sound between the d and m

2019-09-03 20:57:54 UTC

wanna come vc and practice?

2019-09-03 20:58:08 UTC

And if I attempt to make that sound I just fail miserably, lol

2019-09-03 20:58:11 UTC

big poppa shat himself

2019-09-03 20:58:11 UTC

Can't, at work sadly

2019-09-03 20:58:12 UTC

germans have their own 'r'

2019-09-03 20:58:17 UTC

which is somewhat similar to the french 'r'

2019-09-03 20:58:20 UTC

its guttural

2019-09-03 20:58:56 UTC

ghoul why didnt you greet our new arival

2019-09-03 20:58:56 UTC

That one is also hard for me

2019-09-03 20:59:17 UTC
2019-09-03 20:59:18 UTC

are they germans

2019-09-03 20:59:27 UTC

first one is a burger

2019-09-03 20:59:58 UTC

@rogalik Jawohl

2019-09-03 21:00:04 UTC

ja heil

2019-09-03 21:00:12 UTC

It's just generally difficult for me to make breathy consonants without getting tongue tied and just stopping the word in the middle, sounding like I'm hacking up a lougie, or starting a coughing fit.
