To be fair a lot of the deaths in the Soviet Union were caused because they weren't communist enough.
Ukraine was in the middle of a drought and the last few winters had brought with them major crop loss. So when the factories became unionized a lot of farmers realized it was stupid to keep doing back breaking labor and risk not even being able to keep their crops alive till harvest when they could just move to the city and work at a factory and earn 10 times the pay so then farmers abandoned their fields in mass to do that and there weren't enough farmers left to actually produce enough food to feed the country and that plus the rest of the world embargoing the soviets meant that 4 million people starved
