Generally speaking, I don't like talking about my shit but the past week or so I've been waking up like I'm back in the shit. It hasn't happened this much in a long time. I don't wanna go back to drinking and dumb shit like that and I can't exactly go and talk to anyone because "I was never there". So in essence when you can't sleep, what do you do?
As someone who doesn't have much time for sleep between night/day shifts I suggest at least trying to rest as much as you can. Make the room cold, have some sleepy tea, take your mind off of whats bothering you, put on the tv, whatever you need to do. Failing that, I generally get up and start my day, getting as many things done as I can, because when I am tired the next time, everything is already taken care of
On average I get about 4 hours of sleep a night. Used to I would just goto the gym until I was ready to pass out. But that isn't an option now. (no 24 hour gyms locally)
So basically I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to quiet my mind.
Distraction and diversion work, as well as a chemical edge. I have a special blend of tea that helps me along, and I'll have a tv or music going softly in the background

Just try it, and I guess forget about needing to sleep? If you get yourself worked up that time is running out, you'll never sleep
Ex. Thursday I woke up around 2300 and couldn't get back to sleep. I typically wake up at 04 and head to work at 06. So Friday I felt Like shit because I woke up from my bullshit.
Hmm, I'd still try the tea, distraction, and a bit of meditation. But if I was a sleep guru I'd be getting my needed rest

So its like you wake up gotta do security checks and then basically are awake the rest of the night or is it like the panic buzz

Melatonin does wonders for the few guys I know who have issues like that, that and background noise, like water or go online and take your pick, I hear the enterprise background noise isn’t half bad

As I said, before when it would happen I'd just goto the gym n work out til my body would quit
Prt is great and getting a good workout or a deep stretch usually helps alot.
Also practicing some techniques people with anxiety use can work as well grounding ya know
