Also the next election likely hinges on the reforms Boris makes in the first two years of his term.

2019-12-23 00:40:57 UTC

Blair got something ridiculous

2019-12-23 00:41:04 UTC

Well over 100

2019-12-23 00:41:30 UTC

197

2019-12-23 00:41:37 UTC

in '97

2019-12-23 00:41:40 UTC

What's the criteria for a marginal? Winning by less than about 10% or?

2019-12-23 00:42:10 UTC

yes

2019-12-23 00:42:22 UTC

Blair got a majority of 179

2019-12-23 00:42:36 UTC

and then the "size" of a marginal (or 'how marginal the marginal is') is determined the size of the majority

2019-12-23 00:42:37 UTC

It was insane

2019-12-23 00:42:42 UTC

so for example

2019-12-23 00:42:53 UTC

east dunbartonshire is probably the smallest majority

2019-12-23 00:42:56 UTC

in uk history

2019-12-23 00:43:05 UTC

i'm probably wrong, there might have been a seat with 1

2019-12-23 00:43:23 UTC

but 149(?) is still small

2019-12-23 00:43:28 UTC

razor-thin

2019-12-23 00:43:51 UTC

Yup

2019-12-23 00:44:09 UTC

149 is gone at the next election barring a miracle

2019-12-23 00:44:55 UTC

You only need 75 people to change their mind to win it. Or 150 to decide to switch to not voting or for a minor party.

2019-12-23 00:45:06 UTC

Wouldn't be surprised to see her lose her seat next election

2019-12-23 00:45:11 UTC

Yup

2019-12-23 00:46:14 UTC

Boris is probably going to win the next election big and then it’ll be up to whether Labour or the Liberals get their arses in gear.

2019-12-23 01:27:35 UTC

his majority was insane

2019-12-23 01:28:25 UTC

They went from their best ever results under blair then never won an election afterward in a decline to the point of arguably their worst ever result.

2019-12-23 02:16:02 UTC

But those are the same things... People found Corbyn unpopular because of his stance on Brexit

2019-12-23 02:16:21 UTC

Among other things

2019-12-23 02:23:48 UTC

Notice that they also lost 9% of their vote to the LDs

2019-12-23 03:04:46 UTC

Can someone explain to me the current Brexit deal, was told it’s a pretty shit deal

2019-12-23 03:32:34 UTC

@Lewis Basically it keeps the payment to the EU but is designed for us to diverge economically, we continue cooperating on anti-terrorism and the like but be don't accept the jurisdiction of EU courts and aren't forced to keep ourselves aligned to the EU. The only bad thing about it is up to Boris. Basically whether or not he decides to take us out on no deal or on a free trade deal OR whether he makes concessions to the EU. Considering that he's already altering the deal to favour the UK I doubt he's going to give concessions.

2019-12-23 03:33:58 UTC

So basically no deal is the best option

2019-12-23 03:34:09 UTC

That’s probably not gonna happen

2019-12-23 03:34:30 UTC

Well no. A free trade agreement without ties is the best option.

2019-12-23 03:36:17 UTC

The most likely outcome right now is FTA without ties followed by a kinda no deal (basically everything sorted but no trade deal) and then by (if the EU puts up a fight) a proper no deal.

2019-12-23 03:36:42 UTC

Do you really reckon Boris will pull of Brexit ?

2019-12-23 03:36:48 UTC

Off

2019-12-23 03:36:53 UTC

Properly and actually worth t
