It is what our society is based on. We subsume violence by handing it over to the state on the provision that if it fucks with us, that is rescinded.

They're right that it sucks that we live in a society where everyone's carrying around extremely deadly weapons. However, they lose track of reality when they try to jump to the conclusion that the answer is to try and remove guns. That won't work
