Its tactical benefits (ie reach and can be thrown) come next
The bow requires string....
because you can bombard an enemy ship without closing
and training
plus you can shoot fire arrows
Most hunting bows you don't need a lot of training for tbh
The amount of metal on a spear vs the amount of metal on a sword plus its likely the tip isn't the part that will be broken anyway
fire arrows is a joke btw- history literally spits on them
history spits on a lot of things
they still used fire arrows
Hollywood went OTT with those and "vollety fire"
NAh they didn't
yeah they did
not extensively nope
i mean you dont need training as much as practice if you want to hit something
They did used spears to
that and other flaming stuff
maybe not extensively
but they didnt extensively use heated shot either
and yet it still has its niche
Fire arrows make some sense but like against wooden buildings obviously or other super flammables
flame arrows counterract wooden structures
siege engines being one such
Have heard about them being nowhere near as effective as hollywood would have you think
the fuck do you think they covered them in wet furs for
do i have to pull up the Lindybeige?
Well the thing is everyone thinks that "fire arrows> Wooden structure) do you think the dudes with the wooden structures were that stupid....
well an arrow on fire isnt gonna make you any deader than a regular arrow
because i'll do it
and its not gonna catch on your armour
they didn't coat it or had something on standby to snuff out your pathetic little arrow <:pot_of_kek:544849795433496586>
multiple dozen arrows on a wooden structure will very much burn it
This is making me feel like watching Lindybeige regardless
Oh look a shitty volley fire in that still
I hope he tears that apart too
i wouldnt know
volley fire works on guns
i see no reason it wouldnt on arrows tbh
oh my god...
