@Sham00e The people in present day France and West Germany were once called Franks, and they were united in an Empire in about 800 by Charles the Great (Charlemagne).
After his son Louis I died in 843, he divided the kingdom into three. The west, the east and the center. The East, also known as East Frankish Kingdom, became Germany, while the West Frankish Kingdom became France, with the middle, from the Netherlands to Italy, becoming the third part. In time, this part was fought over by the first two kingdoms.
The French of today are frankish in some part.
And middle-eastern in another.
