*Is free speech an end in itself or merely a means to an end?*

2019-12-14 19:32:03 UTC

@everyone

2019-12-14 19:32:13 UTC

It's an end to sex

2019-12-14 19:32:20 UTC

Means to an end

2019-12-14 19:32:27 UTC

Means to an end

2019-12-14 19:32:35 UTC

@21ooAB it's gay tbh

2019-12-14 19:33:02 UTC

Free speech is only good in so far the people with it are good

2019-12-14 19:33:16 UTC

It logically should be allowed by anyone who intends to actually be correct

2019-12-14 19:33:36 UTC

Otherwise they're scared of criticism

2019-12-14 19:33:45 UTC

But shouldn't be a goal itself

2019-12-14 19:33:51 UTC

The "Market place of ideas" is a flawed theory, assuming all are on an equal playing field, but with proper filtration and influence, it can be a means to an end.

2019-12-14 19:34:30 UTC

Free speech should be allowed for the populous to criticize the state

2019-12-14 19:34:54 UTC

Many people aren't really answering the question

2019-12-14 19:38:06 UTC

An end

2019-12-14 19:38:21 UTC

2019-12-14 19:38:26 UTC

Nobody will take anybody seriously with free speech

2019-12-14 19:38:31 UTC

Free speech?

2019-12-14 19:38:37 UTC

More like

2019-12-14 19:38:39 UTC

Gay speech

2019-12-14 19:38:48 UTC

Free Speech is a right. Rights are an end.

2019-12-14 19:39:04 UTC

What makes rights an end

2019-12-14 19:39:09 UTC

Even though you are right, you're still jewish so stfu @Attika

2019-12-14 19:39:24 UTC
2019-12-14 21:15:32 UTC

an sjw is someone who knows the rights of everyone and the responsibilities of no one

2019-12-14 21:23:25 UTC

They've really ran out of sensible questions. Just make it question of the week, or month. You could also make it topical to get ideas, like this week ask a question about UK politics or the election more specifically.

2019-12-14 21:24:04 UTC

Of course free speech isn't an end like wtf. A society in absolute hellish turmoil that has free speech isn't an end that anyone would want.

2019-12-14 22:48:41 UTC

Is free speech really a right? How can we seperate "right" from what is virtuous? We ought to be able to choose to do what is right, but we should also burn books and kill pornographers, so like

2019-12-14 22:50:42 UTC

At least that's an interesting question

2019-12-14 22:51:54 UTC

kill pornographers?

2019-12-14 22:55:39 UTC

Sex slaves

2019-12-14 22:57:07 UTC

The answer is quite simple. Like a lot of things, it comes back to whether an Abrahamic God exists. I'm not well versed on the Bible or other such books - I've only read Genesis - but I've been told that porn is against Christianity. I've also heard people say that free speech in general isn't supported by Christianity and Islam. If I realised that an Abrahamic God exists, I would comb through the corresponding available texts and decipher what was and wasn't allowed. However, until then I shall continue to support free speech.

2019-12-14 22:57:39 UTC

inb4 yes I know I need to read more of the Bible this has just reminded me, I will start again tonight.

2019-12-14 22:59:54 UTC

I decided to stop for my health because I did actually read it for about a month but I was way too invested in it. I was going through it too slowly with too fine a comb and I was thinking about it all the time and I kept getting perplexed and I, no joke, got a couple bad headaches purely out of confusion at new verses.

2019-12-14 23:26:43 UTC

If you have a brain then Christianity is against porn for everything about it is sinful @Mahojo2

2019-12-14 23:32:26 UTC

^

2019-12-14 23:32:28 UTC

that

2019-12-14 23:54:28 UTC

And even if you don’t have a brain you can figure out porn is a negative for you by sheer logical thought if you aren’t addicted to it

2019-12-15 00:24:13 UTC
2019-12-15 00:26:24 UTC

@Mahojo2 I would recommend referencing church tradition and philosophers on it, "freedom" is good to the church but freedom meant something different pre-enlightenment that they coopted the term to get good optics.

2019-12-15 00:41:05 UTC

@CaesarKonrad can u essplain why porn is bad

2019-12-15 01:17:00 UTC

@Ater Votum well let’s see it is highly addictive this has been proven by scientific studies and it makes you seek it out rather than actual sex. People who regularly watch experience less sexual gratification and often develop deviant sexual taste because porn functions like a drug you need a more extreme dosage over time. A study on relationships found relationships where no partner watched porn did the best by looking at personal commentinment, negative communication, infidelity, and sexual gratification there were some others but those are the most important
